X ring
X ring, also known as star ring. It has twice the sealing function of an O-ring and can be used in many static and dynamic sealing applications. Four-lobe X-rings maintain twice the sealing surface compared to standard O-rings. Dual seal action requires less squeezing to maintain effective sealing function. By reducing extrusion, friction is reduced and seal life is extended. Leakage is usually caused by the irregular surface of the Hover line on the O-ring, and the Hover line on the X-ring is located between the two lobes, away from the sealing surface. In rotary sealing applications, X-rings also outperform standard O-rings. The four-lobed design creates a more secure seal to counteract helical twisting. Allows narrower groove widths than standard O-ring grooves, but can also be used in standard O-ring grooves. X-section and ID are measured in the same way as O-rings.
